Quidditch

[edit]

Hello there, and thankyou for your work on the article Quidditch. I have reverted your two previous edits, as they both appear to be alterations in favour of an American audience. The argument about a "global point of view", particularly the differences between American English and Commonwealth English, has resulted in numerous ugly edit wars over, for instance, petrol and soccer. It's hard to decide on naming conventions for these articles as there is no way to prove that one word (petrol or gas, soccer or football) is "right". However what has grown out of these arguments is a series of guidelines. The most important of these is that if a subject is obviously "American", American English is used in that article. Hence baseball uses American terms. If, however, an article is obviously British or from another Commonwealth country, British English is used.

Quidditch is a sport invented by a British author, writing about British characters at a British school and fighting a British enemy. The films are shot in Britain with an all-British cast, and JK Rowling has publicly regretted ever allowing her first book to be published in America under a different title. As the policy of the Harry Potter Wikiproject, this article should continue to be written in British English. That includes the Commonwealth name for the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Many thanks, Happy-melon 18:03, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Dharma transmission, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Japanese (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

"Minor" edit?

[edit]

Hi! The edit you made to William Riker was marked Minor, but really didn't meet the criteria for Minor edits. I recommend not using the Minor checkbox unless you're absolutely sure no other editor could disagree with your change (which doesn't appear to be the case here) or if you're reverting a clear-cut case of vandalism (which this isn't).
