Opinions?
[edit]Hey all, still new to using Wikipedia on the editor side of things so if this is the wrong place for this, or whatever, just let me know.
Thought I'd ask for opinions on whether a section to the SWG page about my personal incident with them would be of interest. Nothing huge, but maybe just a mention, since many may find it an interesting 'behind the scenes" kind thing, on an arguably legendary old MMO.
I was there for opening day of the original SWG, and played up until around WoW had been out for a couple of years or so; so I had countless hours of SWG under my belt. During that time I developed a 3rd party utility called "star wars galaxies loader" that had done several utilitarian type of "handy" things outside of the game (no hacking/cheating stuff). Took many months of hard work and polish to get it going; finally released it publicly, maybe somewhere around 2004-ish I think, it made an article in a gamer mag/page/site (I forget which one it was off the top of my head) which included a download link to the app.
Needless to say, it got something like 500+ downloads overnight, and by the next morning a nice little Cease & Desist email had been sent to my web host by SOE's lawyers, with all of the usual threats. So I had no choice but to "take it off the market" that fast. It must've gotten too much of a buzz which of course is a "huge threat" *eye roll* to mega game corporations.
I could probably even dig up the C&D email if I tried really hard. Still have all the source code and the app itself; been thinking about putting it all on Github for the SWG Emu players these days. Who knows.
What just made me think about this was that a similar thing just happened to: https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-cracks-down-on-valorant-app-that-gives-players-a-significant-advantage-before-the-match-even-begins-its-hard-to-describe-how-disappointed-i-am/
Anyone think this is "wikipedia worthy", and people may find it interesting? J. Scott Elblein (talk) 03:29, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

DLC Descriptions
[edit]Hey everyone!
I was wondering if we need to include the in-depth DLC descriptions? I noticed some of the DLC have their own pages, so maybe it would make sense to make the descriptions a little shorter? Especially because they already link to the page at the first mention.
Let me know what you think!
Sincerely,
Alliebee26 (talk) 15:12, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Sources in Gameplay
[edit]Hey everyone!
I noticed there were little to no sources in the gameplay section. If anyone has any in-depth knowledge of the game, do you know where these comments may have originated from? If so, let's add some sources to this section.
Thanks!

New Game Enhancements
[edit]Hi everyone!
I noticed that "New Game Enhancements" is referenced many times throughout the article, but never defined. I was thinking there should be a whole section for just the NGEs, since they are referenced so randomly throughout the article. Additionally, it would be amazing to include a definition. Is it a paid expansion or free update? I think that would be incredibly helpful for readers, especially since the NGEs seemed to add so much to the game.
Thanks!

Overarching Story
[edit]Hi everyone!
I was just editing the setting section, and noticed there was no story section. I understand this is an MMORPG, but is there an overarching story we can describe? I noticed that was a suggested section in the Videogame Style Guide, so I was wondering if it was something we could include.
If there is no overarching story, maybe we could describe some notable main quests? For individuals visiting this page, I think that would be a helpful change.
Thanks!

Release Date?
[edit]Hi everyone!
I noticed in the production section it claims that the game was pushed back to the second half of 2002, but the release and continued development section says it released in June 2003. When did the game actually release? Looking online, it seems as if 2003 is correct. If so, I think we should add a sentence in the production section about how the game's development was delayed even further (with a cited source).
Thanks!

Emulation Section
[edit]Hi everyone!
I was thinking--for the future of this page--it might be helpful to make the emulation section a little less technical for average readers. I tried my best to simplify things, but it might be best for someone familiar with the topic to make those edits.
Thanks!
