User categories

[edit]

I noticed you put yourself in a couple of categories. By default, articles (including user pages) are sorted by their full name. Your user page has the name User:Veratien, so you go under "U". If you want to go under "V" as you should, add a piped string in the link consisting of just your User name. For instance, your link [[Category:Wikipedian musicians]] becomes [[Category:Wikipedian musicians|Veratien]]. That tells it to sort on "Veratien". Ddawson 16:21, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Play piano *AND* Flute

[edit]

I can manage to play the piano and harmonica (with a neck holder), but I can't imagine playing the piano and flute. Maybe a .gif of how you manage that. --Swirsky

Fleet River / River Fleet

[edit]

Hi... I saw your edit concerning the "Fleet River" on the US/UK English article. I figured there might be an article on the river, and was checking to see if I could add a wikilink. It turns out that if you go to Fleet River you see the "official" name of the article is River Fleet. I don't know anything about it, so maybe you can clarify? Should the River Fleet article be renamed? Is popular use unified or divided on what to call it? If there is a national agency on place names, what do they say? Thanks! -- Coneslayer 19:23, 2005 August 5 (UTC)

Hiya. Officially it's called the River fleet. I have never, however, actually heard anyone from London call it that. :p Most people outside of Central London don't even know it exists, heh. :p --Veratien 19:30, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cobo

[edit]

I've approved your bot for one month testing. Whenever you need to run your bot for testing, you should have it running for a full month, that way to work out whatever kinks it may have. I think your bot is a wonderful idea. If you get stuck, looking for additional ideas, or want a sounding board, just leave a note on my talk page. Best wishes. --AllyUnion (talk) 06:32, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RE: The Lloyd-Webber crappie

[edit]

In what way is my comment invalid? The material on the Lloyd-Webber crappie should have its own page, like the rest of his corpus.--62.255.232.20 02:30, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It added nothing to the discussion and it was in block caps. --Veratien 02:34, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What's wrong with block capitals? It added a request to the discussion. What's unreasonable about suggesting that the Lloyd-Webber crappie get a seperate article? If you're such a L-W fan, why don't you write it? --62.255.232.20 18:36, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for a recording

[edit]

I would like to place a request for a recording of the Ohio Wesleyan University page. Who can I turn to? Thank you! WikiprojectOWU 03:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently overdue on the three articles I earmarked, however, if I've got time, I'll do a recording for you. :) --Veratien 10:35, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article Exclusion: List of Fumblerules

[edit]

Hiya,

Can you please exclude List of Fumblerules from your bot's search list? The article contains deliberate examples of incorrect grammar which your bot keeps 'correcting'.

Thanks,

Pier Gerlofs Donia

[edit]

Veratien, do you care to help me with a spoken version of the article Pier Gerlofs Donia? I would be very glad when you'd record it fo me, or help me to do it. I'm trying to help the spoken wiki, and I'd like to start with this article; it should be interesting to listen... Because the man is a very interesting figure; he has links to his page all across wikipedia, and has a wiki-commons-section and wikiquote-article; he was a man of little words, and great deeds, but the things he said, became graet quotations later. Consider it, and read the article before okay? I'll await your answer, greetings, from -)-(-H- (|-|) -O-)-(- 16:47, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bhutto article

[edit]

What's with the snark at the "whilst" edit? I appreciate your catching my spelling mistake in the edit summary, but I think the actual edit is in fact appropriate. I'm not about to start an edit war over idiosyncratic spelling, but I do think the encyclopedia would benefit from removing something both the Times and Guardian style guides specifically proscribe. Anyway, I'll leave it as is for now. Maybe after the article itself settles down for a while I'll bring it up on the talk page and see what the consensus is. Vonspringer (talk) 19:38, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Read your message. Fair enough! Sorry about that dang "depreciate" again. I think it's because I write a lot of economics papers in my non-Wikipedia life and of course it's used in that subject many times. Force of habit and all that. Anyway, my plan is to one of these days ask about whilst/while in the Wikipedia style guide talk page and see what the consensus is. It's of course a pretty minor thing in the context of an encyclopedia anyway so I'll not be too disappointed if my view ends up in the minority.  ;) Vonspringer (talk) 19:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed I am an American, but I think British spelling is perfectly fine and I have zero objection to British spelling in Wikipedia in general. It seems to be though that "whilst" in particular isn't so much a preferred British construction so much as it is a British colloquialism. To me it seems analogous to using "ain't" in articles with American spelling. It's a relatively common word in America, but it's strongly frowned upon in business or formal contexts. "Whilst" isn't nearly so sketchy, but personally I think it's probably better avoided under similar reasoning. Either way though, happy new year! AfD nomination of List of fumblerules

[edit]

An editor has nominated List of fumblerules, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fumblerules and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:STALKER screenshot after extensive tweaking.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:STALKER screenshot after extensive tweaking.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question

[edit]

It was suggested to seek to someone who might be able to take a look at a website and explain what it is. Namely "Tom.com" and "Photo Tom.com". Are these sites news sites? Are they user created blog/photo sites such as myspace/flicker? Is there a direct page, or section, of either that links to any sort of copyright information? Mainly the issues are about on images that are found on the site. Thanks. Soundvisions1 (talk) 17:57, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Theban letter space.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. GIMP change

[edit]

I think the change will be fine without a citation, I think a person who wants to challenge that will have a hard time saying they cannot get a copy of GIMP :), doing it that way is in keeping with wikipedias "The spirit of the law is more important than the letter of the law". --Gnepets (talk) 11:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of De Hems pub

[edit]

The article De Hems pub has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Tagishsimon (talk) 13:12, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated De Hems pub, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/De Hems pub. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Tagishsimon (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've nominated De Hems, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know.
